Watch out for more cooking with cider courses

Cider.Space and Exeter Cookery School plan more courses on cider-based cooking techniques and dishes following the success of January’s event at the quayside venue. In addition, Cider.Space plans corporate and team-building events for Autumn 2018.

The recent full-day course at Exeter Cookery School included a guide to making, selecting, enjoying and using cider, from Cider.Space; cookery skills and recipes taught by chef/tutor Jim Fisher and cider tastings led by Stable Pizza head of cider Tim Gibb. Hands-on demonstrations included pressing cider and some spectacular Asturian cider-throwing techniques.

Whipping cream for cider syllabub

Cider syllabub under construction: Jim’s recipe for the classic dessert includes cider, cider vinegar and cider brandy, not to mention homemade granola. All bases covered!

Great location on Exeter’s Quayside

The event took place at Exeter Cookery School to celebrate  the ancient cider tradition of wassailing by learning new ways to cook using craft ciders produced within five miles of  the historic city.

Jim’s cookery lessons are relaxed, fun and fulfilling. He’s a former Masterchef semi-finalist who started his career in the kitchens of Exeter’s White Hart Hotel before going on to cook alongside Rick Stein in Padstow, Alistair Little in Notting Hill, London and with Tony Tobin of Ready Steady Cook fame.

Cider-tastings throughout the day

Tim Gibb, head of cider at Stable Pizza led the cider tasting. Former-chef Tim really knows his stuff. He’s the one who trains the West Country cider and pizza chain’s sommelier-style cidermasters. Tim brought a selection for sampling, ranging from a single varietal craft cider to an ice cider by way of keeved and smoked ciders.

Team-building events

These courses are aimed at individuals and small groups but through a collaboration with expert trainers, we are happy to arrange fun and instructive corporate and team-building events around cider-making and cookery.  Enjoyable experiences in their own right, these can be tailored to specific outcomes. Please feel free to contact us using the form below.
